A short list and description of characters as they appeared in the book-
Aziraphale – An Angel who has been around since the beginning, Aziraphale seems to enjoy his time on Earth. He owns a rare book shop, though he tries his best to not sell anything as he is more of a collector than a dealer. He has formed a truce with Crowley, a demon, in order to ensure that, “while neither really won, also neither really lost.”

He has formed a truce with Crowley, a demon, in order to ensure that, “while neither really won, also neither really lost.”
Crowley – Formerly “Crawley,” the serpent who tempted Adam to the apple, he has formed something of a truce with Aziraphale. He drives a 1926 Bentley, and wears dark sunglasses to hide is “yellow eyes with vertically-slitted pupils.” He enjoys his “human” life, and does not care much for his duties as a demon. He is described in the Dramatis Personae as “An Angel who did not so much as Fall as Saunter Vaguely Downwards.”
Adam – The Antichrist and 11-year old boy, Adam Young grew up in a normal human town, with normal human parents and normal human friends, thus not representing the Ultimate Evil Incarnate or the Ultimate Good Incarnate, but simply the Ultimate Human Incarnate. He is leader of the Them and has an obedient mutt-shaped hellhound named Dog.
The Them – Known as the Them, they are Adam’s closest friends. They are made up of Pepper, the strong, brave, secretly girly one, is the only female in their group; Wensleydale, who is something of a nerd, reads science magazines in his spare time and acts far too old for his age; Brian, who is maybe a bit dim but makes up for it in cheery smiles, and seems to be constantly coated in a “layer of grime;” and Adam, their ringleader.
DEATH – The ringleader of the Apocalyptic Horsepersons. Also goes by Azrael. He is much more serious about his job than the other Horsepersons, and is always working. He wears a black motorcycle helmet to hide some of his more frightening features, namely the fact that his head is a grinning skull. He seems to have a perfect memory, and enjoys Trivia Pursuit. He also doesn’t know about much of modern technology, and is the only one of the Horsepersons who doesn’t change.
War – Also known as Scarlett and Carmine “Red” Zuigiber, fights break out wherever she goes. For a while, she worked as an arms dealer, but retired to become a reporter shortly before being called upon to ride as a Horseperson.
Famine – He appears as a stylish, successful businessman, and goes by Sable and Dr. Raven. He sells dieting books and “food” with no nutritional value. He likes slim things.
Pollution – He’s known by many names, such as Mr. White, Chalky, Blanc, and Albus. He’s described as a boy in his twenties, completely pale. He can’t seem to stick with one job and is easily forgettable. The fourth Horseperson was originally Pestilence, but he “retired in 1939 muttering something about Penicillin.”
Anathema Device – Described as a “practical occultist and professional descendent,” she is descended from Agnes Nutter, a prophetess who got everything right. She’s in charge of protecting the book, The Nice and Accurate Prophesies of Agnes Nutter, and trying to prevent the Apocalypse.
Newt Pulsifier – A junior member of the Witchfinder Army, and descendent of one of the most prominent members, Thou-Shalt-Not-Commit-Adultery Pulsifier, he has a hobby of all things electronic, though everything he touches works to the complete opposite of his intention. He is “tall, dark, and not handsome,” and owns possibly the worst car ever made.
The Four Bikers of the Apocalypse – Grievous Bodily Harm, Cruelty to Animals, Things Not Working Properly Even After You’re Given Them A Good Thumping, and Really Cool People. They are not truly Apocalyptic Horsepersons, but bikers who tagged along after them. Their previous names were Big Ted, Greaser, Skuzz, and Pigboy.
