Book Review

                                                                                                                                                                                                          JJJJ
The Apocalypse is coming, and an Angel and a Demon are responsible of swaying the Antichrist to their side, if only they could find him. Or maybe if they were at all competent and hadn’t already decided they liked humans and their world. A book of prophesies and its keeper, a practical occultist and professional descendent, a Witchfinder Private, an aptly named Dog, a fearsome foursome of eleven-year olds, and the Four Horsepersons of the Apocalypse—followed closely by the Four Bikers of the Apocalypse—add them all up, and you get the hilarious book Good Omens, by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

What makes this book so interesting is a combination of things, from the hilarious circumstances surrounding the grim event to the authors’ relentless jabs at any and everything in their extensive reach. The book’s humorous take on the Apocalypse may be a little much for some readers, but I found it to be more than entertaining. The characters were fantastic, each having their special quirk that made them likeable and interesting. We were given insight to each character, and not even the lowliest of minor characters was overlooked. The writing had a laid-back feel that was very easy to submerse yourself in, and the footnotes at the bottom, often labeled as being “for Americans, young people and other aliens” never failed to bring a quick grin at the puns.
Overall, this book was a wonderful read. I would recommend this to any and all who like to laugh or appreciate a fresh take on an old story, and officially give it a solid four smileys.

  1. I am reading Neil Gaiman's book "American Gods" right now. This book seems really interesting. I'll have to put it on my list of books to read. Good job!
